Himeji Castle, "Shirasagi-jou," is also called the "White Heron Castle" due to its brilliant white exterior and elegant design resembling a bird taking flight. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the castle dates back to 1333, though its current form was completed in 1609 under the command of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s ally, Ikeda Terumasa.
